Get Dressed & Look Like Something...

027

I had not been outside my apartment since Thursday when I got off...
I'm not the type to spend my free time out and about.

...Unless it's to shop, of course.

I prefer to snuggle up on my couch under a blanket, watch moves, (which FX and E! have been playing some good ones) and play scrabble on pogo.com.
I read blogs and look at some of my favorite shopping sites as well.

020

That's my comfort zone.

Today, however, I had an errand to run.

So I put a little (and I do mean little) effort into my look.

012

I'm not doing the MOST all the time...For special occasions & work, I pull out the goodies.

But on easy breezy days, leggings are a staple look for me.

And, may I add, the looks I present are ones I'd actually worn somewhere ... Not ideas of what I might wear. Those hang in my closet until I deem it necessary for me to pull them out.

049

If I'm up to it, I may present some look ideas for parties, which I have recently acquired some spectacular pieces I'd like to stunt & flaunt for amazing prices...

But for now...

This is me!

Holidays & Cheat Days...

023

Its inevitable!

The first day, you can turn down the sweet detectibles that punctuate the holidays.

005

But after a while, you give in.
Now one has two choices:
037
1. Totally give up and ignore the fitness goals you'd set beforehand...

or

2. Have a bit of indulgence, but sweat it out later in the gym...

Right now, I'm somewhere in the middle. I gifted myself two days of nothingness for Christmas.

So since I think of working out as work, I don't generally do so when I'm off.

013

But after splurging most of the holiday season, I have still been working out on most mornings before work. I WANT to say I will sentence myself to Insanity for the next month to make up for my indiscretions and to carve out those areas on my body that I wish to tone up for my trip in February.

034

I am happy to say that I am 5 pounds lighter than when I started and can tell it in my clothes.

There are some areas that I still want to work on, but that will come with time.

021

To keep myself honest, I may still do weekly reports...The Good, Bad, & Ugly of life-long fitness...un-huh!

Haul! Be your OWN Santa...

The call to shop came when my mom told me she and my dad gifted me money for Christmas!
My intention was to browse and see what deals I could find.
And BOY did I ever come across some FABULOUS deals!
Co-signing, (agreeing), with other bloggers, I try to find trendy items for a bargain.
Forever 21 is Hands Down my go-to place for that very reason. And I must say that their clothes cater to my curves quite well. From clothing to accessories, there was sooo much that I wanted... But, I had to slow down and pace myself.
These are the items that I absolutely COULD NOT leave without!

2012-12-23

1. Faux Leather Biker Jacket with Zipper and Puff-Shoulder Detailing
2. Chain-Print Dress, Which I got for $6.00!
3. White Button-Down

4. The Oxblood Coated Skinny Jeans were an online purchase from Black Friday...
Afterwards I moseyed on over to Wet Seal. They are another store where I hunt for trends on a dime. I've found some nice boots that were quite fashionable in their buy-one-get one for a penny sales. The whole store was 50% off, including clearance, so I knew I was going to leave with something! I bought...

haul-001

1. Gray Fedora: looking for hats for my bad hair days and this one was $0.49! with the purchase of my other buys
2.  Teal Zippered Clutch
3. Gray Metallic Sweater
4. Faux Leather Metallic Loafers
My friend Naomi Gifted me some silver hoops the size of bracelets!
2B was my next stop, which is also along the lines of a Wet Seal and Charlotte Russe. I really wanted a pair of red pumps, but found this adorable sweater-knit pencil skirt! I loved the midi- length and the fit as skirts that hit me right above the knee tend to ride up when I walk. UGH!

2012-12-231

The jeans pictured are a Marshall's buy from last weekend. ...At $20 bucks they were a steal for a trend.
Fast forward to today and I did some more shopping. My first stop was Rue 21 where I was on the hunt for some fun graphic tees. Did I buy them though? NO! I ended up hauling in accessories.
I got all 6 belts and this fabulous necklace for $11 Bucks! The clearance was an extra 50% off!

2012-12-232

Speaking of Accessories, I always visit Avenue for luxe costume pieces at vERy reasonable prices. The button earrings were a little over 2 bucks with tax and the chain-link watch was a little over $6...can't beat it!
Old Navy was my next stop. Mind you, I had a bag FULL of stuff. I narrowed it down and then narrowed it down once more. The two items left standing was a  ....

haul1-001

1. Chanteuse Button-Down
and this beautiful
2. Red-Orange pop-color Blazer.
The Gap is the store that surprised me the most.
They had DRASTICALLY changed the fit of their bottoms since I first tried them a year ago. I couldn't do their regular denim, let alone their skinny jeans. Since the Gap Outlet has opened, I purchased two pair of their pants and they fit AWESOME! Today's picks were

2012-12-235

1. Red Orange Modern-Fit Slacks
2. Medium Wash Bootcut Long and Lean Jeans (I wanted the denim slack look and for under $6.00 they were a STEAL)
3. Cobalt Pencil Skirt...(that doesn't ride up!)

Merry Christmas to ME!

The Third Week...

First let me just say that I cannot believe I just finished my THIRD week on my 30-day challenge!

That is CRAZY and it went by so fast.

060

I can still do better on my food consumption, but I am killing it on my work-outs.
062
I did five last week...That's right!
054
One-Two-Three-Four-Five!
065
I want to redo that this week!
049
This weekend, I attended a graduation celebration for my friend Naomi.
074
She had the NERVE to graduate with a Master's out of the same program that I just started!
076
I'm jealous! ...But not too jealous to celebrate with her.
I did have a piece of cake, but I DID not take home the cupcake party favors she had...
075
Unt-unh...
BTW, I let my stylist spike my hair.
I loved it when it was first done, the maintenance is NOT what that is...
I'm a side part under girl for a reason.
Earrings/Necklace: Body Central...<3 those dome earrings

Mini Winter...

I had been saving this shirt dress in my closet for when it got cold.
I FINALLY got to wear it this week.

It's by Kirna Zabete.

I thought I would buy into the hype and purchase it when the designer showcase hit Target.

I also fell in love with her faux leather skirt.

027

{I missed a similar looking one when it debuted for Forever 21+ and could have kicked myself when it sold out.

I STILL haven't bought this skirt even though I located it on ebay...but I will...

The dress...I did buy.}

I am a SUCKER for shirt dresses!

004

I was determined to wear it even though my weather.com app read 78 degrees.

I rolled the long equestrian-looking sleeves up and went bare-legged.

008

To my utter shock, it was 58 degrees when I stepped outside! I thought I could wing it and commenced to taking pics. I thought it would be another day where it was winter in the morning and fall as the day progressed.

Nope, it was WINTER all day and got even cooler that night.

I went back home, (I wasn't far), put some clothes on and found another location to finish my pics.

022

And that, my friends, is the life of a personal style blogger...

Second Week Report ...

033

This week I did better.

I am still battling the demon called "My Sweet Tooth," but I compensated for my mishaps by tracking my food intake.

One night I only had enough calories left for greens and green beans for dinner...

True Story...It was NOT FUN either!

I worked out four days this week as well. I alternated between Rush Fit & Insnaity.

014

And the scale showed my efforts.

I went from 219, just two weeks ago to 214 at the end of this week.

021

I gave myself Saturday and Sunday off and I am pumped to start my work-out Monday.

It's a long road. But slow and steady wins the race...Well slow, steady and CONSISTENT!

Recipe Remake: Lexi's Spicy Crab & Corn Chowder...

With the Christmas holiday drawing near, I plan on cooking big.

So, I have been doing a lot of soups for dinner lately.

I like them because they are cheap, hearty and last me for a week! Not to mention this variation is not bad on calories and will help me stick to my fitness goals. Not Bad!

It is ALWAYS amazing when Lexi of BeautyFash: From Sequins to Cilantro, invites us into her kitchen.

You know you are going to be in for a treat when she showcases what she is whipping up on her blog.

I like that the recipes are detailed and have step by step pictures that make them easy to follow.

When I saw that Lexi (and another one of the bloggers I follow both) made corn chowder, I knew I had to give this recipe a go myself.

I like Lexi's version because it is really easy to follow. A lot of recipes call for you to put half the soup in a blender to make it thicker. Lexi does a little trick in the end with a cornstarch paste that is just as effective and with less clean-up!

I give you, my recipe remake of Lexi's Spicy Crab & Corn Chowder!

Her Recipe Calls for...(my substitutions are in bold)

Ingredients:

1 can of crab meat*              I used two because mine was shaved crab meat

2 10 oz. boxes of frozen corn*  I used a 12oz bag

3 cans of chicken broth      I used a 32oz box

1 1/2 cups of heavy cream I used 1 pint...but 1/2 pint is recommended

2 medium carrots, finely diced

2 celery stalks, finely diced

1 medium-large onion, finely diced

1/2 medium red bell pepper, finely diced

6 strips of bacon {or turkey bacon}, finely diced I used precooked bacon

2 heaping tablespoons flour I used wheat flour

2 tablespoons cornstarch and 1 tablespoon of cold water

2 {heaping for me!} tablespoons Old Bay Seasoning I used 4 tablespoons of Tony Chachery's Creole Seasoning

1 tablespoon paprika

1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper {or more if you like it really spicy}

1/2 stick of butter I used Pam Olive Oil Nonstick Spray

1 tablespoon olive oil I omitted this ingredient

001

I hate chopping veggies so I cheated and got the ones already prepared in the produce section of my local store. The only thing I DID chop was the carrots. I will tell you there is something about fresh veggies that do so much for the flavor of a soup. While copping my carrots, I preheated a large soup pot on the stove over med. heat.
005
I also used already cooked bacon. It comes just barely browned so I had enough room to crisp it a little more to get the fat from it.
006
See what I mean, that's my bacon BEFORE I crisped it.

007
And this is after and while still in my soup pot. I used six slices.
008
After removing my bacon and setting it to the side, I sprayed some Olive Oil Pam nonstick spray in the pot, along with the bacon grease, to substitute for butter.  My pot is still warming on med. heat at this point.
010
I added my veggies, sautéing them in the oils and seasoned them with Morton's Nature's Season with no MSG! I love this stuff. It's like a seasoned salt and pepper blend.
011
Next I added two heaping tablespoons of King Arthur Wheat Flour to the veggies. I sprayed a little more Non-Stick Spray right afterwards and stirred, to insure the veggies were coated well with wheat flour.
014
Then I added one box of Swanson 99% Fat Free Chicken broth slowly to the mixture, stirring after each addition. (You should do this about 4-5 times, adding the broth and then stirring, adding more broth and then stirring).  Then I let this come to a boil (Still on med. heat).
015
016
I added these seasonings to my broth and veggie mixture, 1tbls of the paprika and cayenne and 4tbls of the Tony Chachere's .
018
After simmering about 3 minutes, I added one 12oz bag of frozen corn and two cans of crab meat. (The brand I used gave me crab shavings instead of chunks...Really?) I let the soup simmer for 5 minutes and then reduced the heat to med. low.
019
Then I added a pint of heavy whipping cream. (That may have been too much because my soup went from a golden brown to white...but...it still tasted good! Next time I'll do a 1/2 pint, which is recommended.)
021
I let it simmer for another 3 minutes before I added 2tbls of corn starch and 1tbls of cold water.
027
Then I stirred, let it cook for another three minutes before turning the stove completely off and covered it.  I added the cooked bacon as well.
The extra small bowl I sampled tasted AMAZING, but I will eat it for dinner tomorrow and throughout the week with some low fat corn bread!
Thank You Lexi!!!!!
