my Fashion Essentials...

Written Prior to Today...
I was unable to post a blog today due to waking up late and having the most hectic day imaginable...I wanted to though...
But when I got home, the last thing I wanted to do was take pictures.
I just wanted all remnants of today's events gone and to just relax...
So, off went my cute outfit and on went an oversized shirt, which is my go to when I'm on chill...
I wanted to post something and I had this topic in mind for a little bit.
A fashion essential, in my mind, is something that you reach for over and over in outfits that make them work for you.
It's those TRADEMARK items that make your outfits stand out.
It can be an actual item, like that cute two-fingered ring or a sensible carry-all bag...Or concepts like all things striped, bright colors, or funky prints...
Here are ten things I put in constant rotation, no matter what outfit graces my blog...
1. The Gray Tee
Be it screen printed or not, a gray tee is classic & classy in my eyes. It's the perfect base to tie color-blocked pieces together, or add balance to clothing with bold/exotic prints...
2. Funky Flats
In my every day life, [which is mostly what's pictured], heels are out of the question. Just because i can't wear shoes above 1 inch 5 days out of the week, doesn't mean I have to compromise my style. These are some sensible soles that are on my radar!
3. Neutral Colors
Like Gray, other neutrals are a great way to tie all the elements of an outfit together. They can also create a great contrast in the most basic of colors. In my eyes, neutrals can be as rich as shades of brown and olive greens, flashy as shades of coppers, golds, or silvers, and soft like beiges and blush tones...
4. The Carry All
A "Carry All" is just another name for a big purse. You can carry all things in it, including the kitchen sink...lol...With my busy work-week, I need a purse that not only offers style, but utility. Plus, more times than not, I will be seen matching a pair of shoes with my carry-alls on my blogs.
5. Dresses
What fashionista doesn't like to wear dresses. I don't know any. Dresses just make me feel pretty and they will ALWAYS be a part of my wardrobe as far as I can see...THE END...
6. The Belted Waist
Not only is the belt a GREAT accessory, but it can create a slimming effect. Use it to add a POP of color in a contrasting shade or to add functionality while creating shape to a garment. I even use belts to disguise elastic. One can also remove the fabric belt on a trench coat and replace it with one more bold in hue...
7. Bold/Eye Catching Colors

Red,Green, Orange, Cobalt Blue, Yellow...alll colors that are HOT these season...All colors that fashionsists are thinking of new and innovative ways to incorporate in their wardrobe and I am no different. Being to lover of color which I am, I am drawn to the edginess some hues can add to my personal style...
8. Fun Prints
Tribal, Polka Dot, Stripes, IKAT, and funky screen tees are all elements once can use to add some print to their look. I find myself gravitating to all things Tribal these days, Stripes are also one of my timeless favorites.
9. The Boyfriend Watch with Matching Hoops
I have tons and tons of accessories. And as some styles peak my interests, I buy more. But more times than not, I find myself just simply putting on my boyfriend watch and matching hoops as an accessory. I actually have this style of watch and matching earrings in four different colors.
10. Denim...
Denim Shoes, Denim Jackets, Denim Bags, Denim Jeans/Trousers, even Denim furniture...A timeless fabric that complements many pieces in the Fashionista's wardrobe...My personal favorite because of its versatility!
What are your fashion essentials and what makes your outfits stand out?

  1. Love all of the tips. Especially the belted waist. That's one of mine too!

Other essentials for me are pencil skirts, a sexy pair of heels and a great fitting pair of jeans.
